From Hadar up to the Carmel, much of the city turns over with the academic and hospital years. Mixed Jewish and Arab neighbourhoods make it one of the most genuinely diverse places to live in Israel, and one where circles form fast around a campus or a department and dissolve just as fast.

That the university or the hospital will supply your social life. It supplies colleagues. The people who stay happy here build something outside the institution they came for.
Where to start in Haifa
Build something outside the institution you came for, in your first month, before the term rhythm takes over. Colleagues from the Technion, Rambam or a tech floor are the easiest people to meet and the ones most likely to leave in a year. Pick a habit that spans the city rather than the campus - the Carmel, Hadar, the coastline - and prefer people who are staying to people who are passing through. It is also one of the few Israeli cities where meeting across Jewish and Arab neighbourhoods is genuinely ordinary; take that.
Where Bamboo fits
