Herzliya is full of interesting people who are all at work, and it offers almost no reason for any of them to meet each other.
What Herzliya is actually like socially
Herzliya Pituach is offices and the sea, and the two barely touch. Tech workers, founders and freelancers pass each other daily in the same three cafés without a single structure that introduces them - the company happy hour is not it, because everyone there already knows each other. The residential side of the city, closer to the old centre and the marina, runs on families and school runs, which is a different world again and just as hard to enter mid-life.
The thing most people get wrong
That professional events will do it. They produce contacts. They very rarely produce someone you would call on a Saturday.
Where to start in Herzliya
Do not let the commute define your week. Herzliya works as two separate towns - the tech park in Pituach and everything residential east of it - and people who only ever meet colleagues end up socially stranded when they change jobs. Anchor on the marina, the beach or a class in the evenings, on your own side of the road. If you work in Pituach and live elsewhere, treat one evening a week as non-negotiably local, or the city stays an office to you.
