What Modiin is actually like socially
A commuter city between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, heavily English-speaking, and heavily families with school-age children. Weekday time is thin and the drive matters, so a meeting that is actually scheduled is worth ten that were meant to happen spontaneously. The upside is that almost everyone here moved in at some point too, so nobody finds the question strange.
The thing most people get wrong
That having children the same age is enough. It gets you to the same playground. It does not, by itself, get you a friend.
Where to start in Modiin
Accept that this is a city built around families and school runs, and work with it rather than against it. Spontaneity is rare here; recurring commitments are everything. If you have children, the school and the neighbourhood are a genuine social entry point and not a consolation prize. If you do not, plan on a weekly anchor outside the city - Modiin sits between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, and a standing meet in either is more realistic than waiting for a local scene to appear.
