Tel Aviv is the easiest city in Israel to be busy in and one of the hardest to make close friends in. Everyone is out, and almost none of it is open to someone new.
What Tel Aviv is actually like socially
The social life here runs on existing circles - army friends, university friends, the people from your first job. It happens in apartments and at standing Friday tables you have to be invited to, not at the bars you can walk into. That is why a city this dense can feel closed from the outside.
The thing most people get wrong
Most new arrivals assume the language is the barrier. In Tel Aviv it usually isn't - people switch to English without being asked. The barrier is that nothing here is structured to introduce strangers to each other.
