What Netanya is actually like socially
Large French-, English- and Russian-speaking communities live alongside longtime residents, and the promenade and city centre are genuinely mixed. It is easier here than almost anywhere to find someone who arrived recently too - which is a very different thing from finding someone who has been here for thirty years.
The thing most people get wrong
That you will end up only with people from your own country. You do not have to, but it takes deliberately meeting outside the language you arrived with.
Where to start in Netanya
Use the fact that everyone around you also arrived recently - it is the city's real advantage, and it expires. Newcomers form their circles in the first few months and then close them. Go to the promenade and the city centre where the language groups actually mix, and deliberately meet outside the language you arrived with at least once a week. If you came with French, English or Russian, your first ten friends will be from that group unless you make a point of it.
